Woods to Perform 24-Hour Poetry Feature |
Nationally-know poet and President of Poetry Slam Inc. (PSi) Scott Woods is performing a one-man 24-hour poetry feature for the second time. Scheduled to usher in National Poetry Month (also known as April), the event will be held at Kafe Kerouac (2250 N. High St., Cols., OH). Woods will begin reading at 8 p.m., Sat., Mar. 31 and continue until Sun., Apr. 1 at 8 p.m.
"Last year no one had done it before," said Woods. "Now I can top myself by not repeating poems. Poetry is so vast and contains so many voices, you could do this reading every year for fifty years and not repeat a poem."
Woods added, "I've got stacks and stacks of books in my office as high as my hip in an attempt to make this year's feature a totally engaging experience."
The author and editor of over nine volumes of poetry (50 Mistakes Poets Make and High Desert Voices: The 2005 National Poetry Slam Anthology most recently), Scott Woods has performed all over the country. He has been featured multiple times on National Public Radio and recently in Paste Magazine and Columbus Monthly.
He was inducted into the Thomson-Gale Contemporary Black Biography encyclopedia in 2006 and has published articles, reviews and other prose. He is currently President of Poetry Slam Inc., which oversees the annual National Poetry Slam and the Individual World Poetry Slam. Woods co-founded the Writers' Block Poetry Night, a Columbus-based organization that produces weekly open mic events and poetry slams, a monthly open mic dedicated to new poetry, and the Jazz Poetry Slam. He also writes a monthly poetry column -- "Poetry Is Doomed"-- for GotPoetry.com.

PSI Events Calendar Gets a Shake Up |
The Executive Council of Poetry Slam, Inc. recently re-examined its events calendar and made some rather major modifications as a result.
They determined that given that March is the official month to recognize women's history and general women's contributions to American life and culture, it was determined that an all women's event made a good deal of sense in March rather than in the Fall.
As a result, here is the PSI events calendar going forward:
2007 February 2007 = IWPS 2007 (Vancouver) August 2007 = NPS 2007 (Austin) October 2007 = WOWPS 2007 (Chicago)
2008 February 2008 = IWPS 2008 (Columbus) August 2008 = NPS 2008 (Madison) October 2008 = WOWPS 2008 (tbd) Dec. 1, 2008 - Jan. 15, 2009 = Registration for WOWPS 2009
2009 March 2009 = WOWPS 2009 (tbd) August 2009 = NPS 2009 (tbd) September 1 GÃô October 15, 2009 = Registration for IWPS 2009 October 2009 = IWPS 2009 (tbd)
IWPS = Individual World Poetry Slam WOWPS = World of Women Poetry Slam NPS = National Poetry Slam |
