From his wife, Faith Vicinanza:

Please forgive me for doing this by email, Peter passed away quietly at home earlier Thursday evening with me, my daughter Christina, and my oldest son Michael beside him.  We are all devastated, it has been a very hard couple of days.  He began declining rapidly a few days ago and Thursday was like a freight train that had gained speed and there was no turning back, we had hospice care with us through the afternoon and evening, Chris and I and the nurse worked hard all day to make him comfortable and I had the chance to say, again, all the last things I wanted to say.  I will miss him terribly. Services are tentatively October 14th but I will let you know when they are arranged.

My love and appreciation to all of you who supported us through this, and there were so many who held us up physically and spiritually, I am forever honored by your friendship and caring.

Faith (and Peter)

Peter was an inspiration to several poets in our family and will be missed terribly. To read some of his works and to see the "Key West to Canada Bicycle Tour Photo Blog", please visit 2005 http://faithandpeter.blogs.com.

Well, not really. But that’s the story I was told when I came into the poetry slam world some 8 years ago.
