Where: Preliminary Bouts: UNM Student Union Building April 2nd-3rd 3&5 PM Free. Semi-finals: National Hispanic Cultural Center; Bank of America Theater April 5th 6 & 8 PM Free. Finals: Historic El Rey Theatre featuring Mexican Spoken Word Troupe: Verbobala. 7PM tickets available day of show at El Rey. $7 Students $10 General Admission.

When: April 2nd-5th 2008 @ UNM, NHCC, & El Rey Theater

After a near miss of frightening and disastrous fire, The Historic El Rey Theater, will triumphantly host the finals of the College National Poetry Slam Championship on April 5th at 7PM. The College Unions Poetry Slam Tournament will showcase the best in collegiate spoken word poetry.

Andrea Gibson!
Andrea Gibson wins first Women of the World Poetry SlamThe first ever Women of the World Poetry Slam is over, and Andrea Gibson is the first champion.  The Fillmore Detroit stage held up to an onslaught of poetry from start to finish on Saturday night. Twelve amazing poets took the stage and demonstrated to the city and the world that performance poetry is vibrant, alive, and incredibly powerful.  Congratulations to Andrea Gibson, and all the amazing poets who participated and shined in this inaugural event.
 
Gypsee Yo wins the WoWPS Video Slam!

 Congratulations Gypsee!

The response to this contest has been amazing, and the top two poems really pulled in votes.  The margin of victory was less than 300 votes.  Gypsee Yo's poem "Ema's Song" wins with a total of 2835 votes, barely edging out Chauncey Beaty's untitled piece.

WoWPS Video Slam - Vote Now!

WoWPS Voting is now open for PSi's Women of the World Online Video Slam!  Watch and listen to the performances and vote for your favorite.  You can vote as often as you like.  The poet with the most votes when the contest ends will receive their registration for the Women of the World Poetry Slam on PSi, and a PSi membership , or membership upgrade.

WoWPS Online Video Slam

Women of the World Poetry Slam

Note: Entry to the online slam is now closed. 

PSi is proud to announce the WoWPS online poetry slam. Any poet living as a woman may submit a video of their performance for consideration by the public. The winner will receive a registration to the Women of the World Poetry Slam and a membership to PSI.

Here's how it works:
  • Make or acquire a video of yourself performing a poem.
  • The quality of the video isn't as important as that of your performance and writing!
  • The video must be no longer than 3 minutes and 30 seconds in length.
  • The poem must be your own.
  • No group pieces.
  • No music.
  • Submit the video here at poetryslam.com.
  • Visitors will vote on their favorites during the first 10 days in February.
  • The winner will be announced as soon as the results are verified.
