Poetry Cross Training is off to a great start |
The first ever Poetry Cross Taining session concluded at SUNY Oneonta june 10-12. Sixteen brave students subjected themselves to intense training in workshops, lectures, hands on exercizes, and one-on-one cirtiques by some of the best Slam teachers in the world.
They not only survived but came away saying things like:
The camp was well worth the time and cost
I strongly recommend the camp for any would be slammer, performance poet, poetry educator/academic looking to upgrade and make current and relevant their knowledge base
Michael's (Salinger) workshop is very good--even taking it a second time I still learned something. Regie's (Gibson) workshop was good as well--I came away with some valuable tools for future use--ways to generate creative ideas and force myself into a new place from which to write.
Steve Marsh and Robb Thibault are both AMAZING people. They were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We all wanted to hug them and take them home with us.
You had a wide mix of ages, nationalities and experience, yet every person attending found something of benefit to them in these sessions. They're talking about doing this again next year, and I definitely would go back. I wasn't excited about the camp before I left. I just felt it was something I was supposed to do. Yet I return thinking I would not trade the experience for anything in the world. I met some terrific young talented people and got some very constructive one-on-one feedback from three of the instructors. I would go back if for no other reason than to see how the seeds planted this year have grown.
Watch this space for updates once we have them in place, and start saving your pennies NOW to attend in June of 2005. |
