The first day of the Individual World Poetry Slam Championship is done. The bouts proved that this event is truly world class. (The lower the total rank the better). This is a re-post of an earlier news article. There were errors in the scores. Some ranks (not total points) have changed. iWPS 2006 Charlotte, NC Feb 1-4, 2006 | | Results | | Number | Name | Rd 1 Rk | Rd 1 Score | Rd 2 Rk | Rd 2 Score | Total Rk | Total Score | | 101 | Matt McDonald | 9 | 23.9 | 8 | 27.2 | 17 | 51.1 | | 102 | Maya Hersh | 8 | 24.4 | 7 | 27.3 | 15 | 51.7 | | 103 | Pilote Le Hot | 6 | 26.2 | 5 | 27.4 | 11 | 53.6 | | 104 | Adam Henze | 10 | 23.8 | 5 | 27.4 | 15 | 51.2 | | 105 | Gypsee-Yo | 7 | 25.5 | 3 | 27.7 | 10 | 53.2 | | 106 | Jim Levine | 11 | 23.5 | 11 | 25.8 | 22 | 49.3 | | 107 | Basik Knowledge | 2 | 27.1 | 2 | 28.4 | 4 | 55.5 | | 108 | Carlos Robson | 4 | 26.5 | 1 | 28.5 | 5 | 55 | | 109 | George Miller | 3 | 26.8 | 3 | 27.7 | 6 | 54.5 | | 110 | Ansel Appleton | 12 | 23.4 | 10 | 27.1 | 22 | 50.5 | | 111 | Shappy | 5 | 26.3 | 8 | 27.2 | 13 | 53.5 | | 112 | Doug Shields | 1 | 27.6 | 12 | 24.7 | 13 | 52.3 | | 201 | Bobby Gibbs | 11 | 24.9 | 2 | 29.6 | 13 | 54.5 | | 202 | Xero Skidmore | 6 | 26.6 | 1 | 30 | 7 | 56.6 | | 203 | Patrick Swan | 7 | 26.2 | 9 | 28 | 16 | 54.2 | | 204 | Ryler Dustin | 12 | 24 | 7 | 28.7 | 19 | 52.7 | | 205 | Joaquin Zihuatanejo | 2 | 28.7 | 3 | 29 | 5 | 57.7 | | 206 | Cuffee | 5 | 27.3 | 10 | 27.9 | 15 | 55.2 | | 207 | Logic | 7 | 26.2 | 12 | 27.7 | 19 | 53.9 | | 208 | Mike McGee | 3 | 27.8 | 5 | 28.9 | 8 | 56.7 | | 209 | Stephanie Williams | 1 | 29.2 | 10 | 27.9 | 11 | 57.1 | | 210 | Tiffany Smith | 4 | 27.7 | 8 | 28.4 | 12 | 56.1 | | 211 | Renaissance | 9 | 25.7 | 3 | 29 | 12 | 54.7 | | 212 | Hakim Bellamy | 10 | 25.4 | 6 | 28.8 | 16 | 54.2 | | 301 | Steve Murray | 12 | 21.8 | 12 | 26.7 | 24 | 48.5 | | 302 | Ashley Mack | 10 | 24.2 | 5 | 28 | 15 | 52.2 | | 303 | Twain | 4 | 26.8 | 3 | 28.7 | 7 | 55.5 | | 304 | Zork | 7 | 24.5 | 9 | 27.3 | 16 | 51.8 | | 305 | Adriana Ramirez | 6 | 25.1 | 10 | 27.2 | 16 | 52.3 | | 306 | Dan Lehman | 3 | 27.1 | 2 | 29.4 | 5 | 56.5 | | 307 | Sonya Renee | 2 | 27.3 | 1 | 29.8 | 3 | 57.1 | | 308 | Rachel McKibbens | 1 | 27.5 | 8 | 27.7 | 9 | 55.2 | | 309 | Katie Wirsing | 11 | 23.4 | 6 | 27.8 | 17 | 51.2 | | 310 | Kahn Davison | 9 | 24.4 | 4 | 28.1 | 13 | 52.5 | | 311 | Wisler Marcelus | 5 | 26.3 | 11 | 26.9 | 16 | 53.2 | | 312 | Thorkil Jacobsen | 7 | 24.5 | 5 | 27.8 | 12 | 52.3 | | 401 | Ali Langston | 11 | 26.7 | 7 | 29.1 | 18 | 55.8 | | 402 | Mathew Rucker | 12 | 25.6 | 5 | 29.3 | 17 | 54.9 | | 403 | Versiz | 4 | 28.2 | 7 | 29.1 | 11 | 57.3 | | 404 | Da Minista | 10 | 26.9 | 1 | 29.7 | 11 | 56.6 | | 405 | Christa Bell | 7 | 27.7 | 5 | 29.3 | 12 | 57 | | 406 | Darling Nikki | 8 | 27.4 | 12 | 28.2 | 20 | 55.6 | | 407 | Evelyn Gildre-Voyles | 8 | 27.4 | 10 | 28.9 | 18 | 56.3 | | 408 | Buddy Wakefied | 5 | 28 | 7 | 29.1 | 12 | 57.1 | | 409 | Q | 3 | 28.5 | 3 | 29.4 | 6 | 57.9 | | 410 | Rachel Finley | 2 | 28.7 | 11 | 28.7 | 13 | 57.4 | | 411 | Iyeoka Okoawa | 1 | 28.9 | 2 | 29.6 | 3 | 58.5 | | 412 | Rives | 5 | 28 | 3 | 29.4 | 8 | 57.4 | | 501 | Jared paul | 9 | 27.4 | 4 | 29.3 | 13 | 56.7 | | 502 | M A | 10 | 27.2 | 11 | 28.7 | 21 | 55.9 | | 503 | Eric Darby | 8 | 27.8 | 5 | 29.2 | 13 | 57 | | 504 | Isaac Miller | 4 | 28.3 | 1 | 29.7 | 5 | 58 | | 505 | Brian Patillo | 4 | 28.3 | 7 | 29.1 | 11 | 57.4 | | 506 | Darrel Payne | 6 | 28 | 2 | 29.6 | 8 | 57.6 | | 507 | Cynthia French | 10 | 27.2 | 7 | 29.1 | 17 | 56.3 | | 508 | Jessie Dyllan Grace | 10 | 27.2 | 9 | 29 | 19 | 56.2 | | 509 | One Truth | 7 | 27.9 | 5 | 29.2 | 12 | 57.1 | | 510 | Chris August | 3 | 28.4 | 3 | 29.5 | 6 | 57.9 | | 511 | Molly Meacham | 1 | 28.6 | 12 | 28.3 | 13 | 56.9 | | 512 | Cassie Poe | 1 | 28.6 | 9 | 29 | 10 | 57.6 | | 601 | Krissi Reeves | 6 | 27.2 | 3 | 29.2 | 9 | 56.4 | | 602 | Mike Guinn | 8 | 26.9 | 2 | 29.4 | 10 | 56.3 | | 603 | Ria | 10 | 26.7 | 6 | 28.2 | 16 | 54.9 | | 604 | Andrea Gibson | 2 | 28.1 | 1 | 30 | 3 | 58.1 | | 605 | Alex Charalambides | 11 | 26 | 10 | 27.5 | 21 | 53.5 | | 606 | Liam Coughlin | 9 | 26.8 | 7 | 28.1 | 16 | 54.9 | | 607 | Cuban | 1 | 28.3 | 9 | 28 | 10 | 56.3 | | 608 | Lee Knight Jr | 5 | 27.3 | 7 | 28.1 | 12 | 55.4 | | 609 | Jerri Hardesty | 6 | 27.2 | 10 | 27.5 | 16 | 54.7 | | 610 | Marcell Murphy | 12 | 25.4 | 5 | 28.4 | 17 | 53.8 | | 611 | Swan | 4 | 27.4 | 12 | 27.2 | 16 | 54.6 | | 612 | Corbet Dean | 3 | 27.5 | 4 | 28.9 | 7 | 56.4 | |

Hurricane Relief for PSI Members |
Poetry Slam, Inc. has been persuaded by some of its members to participate in a little hurricane relief for some of our own needy individuals. The following poets are all currently active members of PSI and have been displaced by Katrina: Chuck Perkins Asali DeVan Leonce Hall Sunni Patterson Hilton GF Soldier Young Trinette Asia Rainey
We are encouraging individual poets, certified and registered Poetry Slams and anyone interested to donate cash to PSI to help these poets get back on their feet.
I do not think a donation to PSI for the assistance of PSI members is tax deductible. Disaster releif is not in our organizational mission and PSI members are not a "general" population. I will continue trying to get an answer to that question from the IRS, but any contribution you make to this fund should be considered to be a straight up gift. If you want to give to an organization and get a tax break on your donation, we recommend the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org but of course there are others. Please be careful of scam "charities" though.
If you are a SlamMaster with a positive amount in your GrantBack account, you could divert some or all of that money to this fund if you wish. Just send me an e-mail that tells me to do that.

Anyone can donate through paypal. Go to the PaPal site and click on Send money. Then send it to

with a note that says it is for The New Orleans poets.
Anyone can donate with Visa, Mastercard or Discover (sorry, we don't take American Express). The easiest way to do that, with the new rules in place, is by FAX. Send a photocopy of your credit card with a note that says the amount you wish to donate and your signature on it. FAX is completely secure and there is no way to intercept that information. The FAX number at PSI is 810-231-8129.
(Please don't call me this week with credit card numbers as I am on the road and won't be back until September 15. FAX really is our best option.)
And, of course, we will take your checks and money orders through the mail. In fact, credit cards have a service fee and so does PayPal. More of your money will get to New Orleans if you send check or money order or donate from your GrantBack.
Send checks and money orders (with a note that it is for the New Orleans Poets Relief Fund) to:
Poetry Slam, Inc. Steve Marsh 11462 East Lane Whitmore Lake MI 48189
I fear that we will not be able to raise very much but I hope that all of you will prove that fear to be wrong. |

NPS 2005 Teams Attending (OFFICIAL) |
The release of this list is later than usual for a variety of reasons. Most of those reasons come down in favor of including everyone in NPS 2005 that we possibly could. Here is the list of 75 teams (the largest ever) who will be in Albuquerque, NM in August 2005 for the largest team Poetry Slam event in the universe.
