Welcome EC Class of 2008

As we successfully complete another Spring SlamMaster Conference, we do a little shifting and changing of arms as well.  If you didn't know, every Spring, SlamMasters from all over the globe that are registered with PSi congregate on some poor unsuspecting (and sometimes suspecting) city and we wreak havoc for an entire weekend while we hammer out policies, rules and other ugly things that make each year's NPS, iWPS and WOWps all the more fun and/or agonizing (it's all about perspective folks :-P).  Anyway...

During that time, we also elect our new class of Executive Council members.  These voted volunteers help run the administrative aspect of Poetry Slam, Inc. (such as helping determine where money gets spent, fundraising, you know...the "dirty" dirty work).  This year's EC class of 2008 has been elected and with this election, we say goodbye to some of our most valued members as well as welcome some fresh blood and welcome back some of our vets.

So we bid a sad, but loving farewell to Rachel McKibbens (SlamMistress for NYC - Bar 13, Louder Arts) and Don McIver (SlamMaster for Albuquerque, NM). We wish you both well and much success and we will be harassing you occasionally for guidance, and the pure hell of it.

Now...please welcome our newest members of the Executive Council...

Ms. Cassie Poe (SlamMistress, Detroit, MI)

ImageCassie Poe is a Detroit artist and mom.  Her first love was fiction writing until she met poetry in 99' and started a lurid affair.  This hot and steamy involvement led to an illicit relationship with Slam that is still ongoing.  Currently, she serves as the mistress/Slammaster for the Detroit Byte This Slam.  Her other passions include interior decorating and landscaping though she loves small animals and longs for world peace.

 

Mr. Chad Anderson (SlamMaster, Lincroft, NJ)

ImageChad Anderson is a spoken work poet and college professor in New Jersey. He was a member of the 2005 NYC Urbana poetry team who won 10th in the nation and was the 2007 New Jersey Grand Slam Champion. Chad has featured at the Javitz Center, Columbia University, Sarah Lawrence, the University of Pennsylvania and the Virgin Megastore in New York. Chad has performed and taught internationally, having spoken his words at California State University, the Vancouver poetry Slam, Hot97 radio, Kunsan Korea, and even the famous Green Mill in Chicago. Having shared the spotlight with poets such as Saul Williams, Nicki Giovanni, and Amiri Baraka, Chad now finds his home in front of an audience, hosting the hottest poetry slam on the Jersey Shore; Loser Slam. Chad detests having to write things in the third person. He has a dog whom he loves very much.

And welcome back (officially)...

Ms. Inkera (Charlotte, NC)

ImageWhen a seat became available on the EC midseason 2007 that needed to be replaced quickly, Inkera was the first person we could think of to fill those tough, but empty shoes. And like the dedicated worker that she is, she has more than stepped up to the challenge.  Inkera's love affair with PSI started in 2004 at the first iWPS. She has volunteered at a PSI event every year since then. Inkera served as co-organizer for iWPS 2006 and the Southern Fried Regional Poetry Slam in 2005.

And last but most certainly not least, welcome back to ...

Scott "Zod" Woods (SlamMaster, Columbus, OH - Writer's Block)

ImageScott has been on the EC a very long time.  And for years, he has dedicated himself to the cause. Coming back for another year of blood, sweat and tears, Scott is ready to roll up his sleeves and get this party rockin. He just finished organizing (and running) the 2008 Rustbelt Regional Poetry Slam and has been re-elected not only to the EC, but also in the role of our fearless leader (aka El Presidente).
