SlamMasters Invade Madison
The weather was flawless as we drove in to Madison towards the Madison Concourse Hotel, which is not only housing the Council's meeting, but will serve as the host hotel for NPS 2008. I can imagine the weather in August will be fantastic in this lovely lakeside town.
The Host City Organizers Dasha Kelly and David Hart welcomed the SlamMasters to Madison and showed off the NPS venues and the town in the best possible way, with a scavenger hunt. A map to the relevant NPS 2008 venues was distributed to each council member with a list of distinguishing characteristics on the back. SlamMasters were instructed to go out and explore the venues, matching the characteristics to each one. The prize? Half of their NPS 2008 registration fees!
SlamMasters invaded Madison hunting for clues and examining the venues, each of them a very short walk from the host hotel. When the dust cleared, Rachel McKibbens took the win for Louder Arts. Congratulations Rachel!
Thanks to Dasha and David, their community and the City of Madison for this weekend. We look forward to the National Poetry Slam 2008, they will have big shoes to fill after Austin, but after this visit, we are confident they are up to the challenge.
