Application for NPS 2006 Begins at Midnight 4/1/06
As has been the case for the past few years, application for teams to attend National Poetry Slam 2006 kicks off at 00:00:01 AM EST April 1. PSI recognizes and endorses the irony of the date!
Things are just a little bit different this year than in the past.
There are multiple ways to get the $400 applicaiton fee to Poetry Slam, Inc. this year:
1. A check or money order in the mail is legitimate and just as valid as any other method (as long as the postmark is April 1, 2006 or later).
2. Teams can pay by paypal to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
3. Teams can withdraw the funds from their GrantBack accounts, assuming there is enough in the account to do so.
4. Teams can fax a copy of a Visa, Mastercard or Discover card and the signature of the cardholder to 810-231-8129. PSI will process the card for $400 and then shred the fax.
But the application is not complete until the application form has been filled out and sent in. The URL for the application form is http://www.poetryslam.com/modules.php?name=eform&form=npsform BUT IT SHOULD NOT BE SENT TO PSI UNTIL AFTER 00:00:01 AM EST April 1, 2006. If it is sent early, the application will be moved to the back of the line and processed after all those who waited.
This is a process of first come, first served among all certified poetry slams in the US and around the world.
Unlike years past, only Slams which are already certified will be permitted to attend NPS 2006. Any venues seeking certification after April 1 will be eligible for NPS 2007.
Finally, it is required for the SlamMaster of any certified slam seeking entry to the NPS 2006 to attend the SlamMasters Meeting Austin, TX on April 14-16, 2006 or to send a representative to the meeting holding the proxy vote for that venue.
NPS 2006 has been limited to no more than 80 teams from around the US and the world. ANd, as always, it promises to be the biggest and best showcase for the finest performance poetry talent in the world to show itself off.
