With no offense to Ransacked, I'll take nearly anybody except Garrison Keillor unless we specifically get the whole Prairie Home Companion shtick, which at least shows some wit. The Writer's Almanac could kill the most exciting poem in existence with enough boredom left over to put a kindergarten full of kids with ADHD to sleep.

(Ransacked dies.)

Oh no! Ransacked was the most exciting poem in existence, and he has been taken by the Writer's Almanac!

Quick, someone find that kindergarten full of ADHD kids before it's too late!

 ;)

Les Nubians would be a great choice, AND they have incorporated poets into their performances in the past, including Oakland slaminatrix Nazelah Jamison, who appears on one of their albums!

Not as big as The Roots, but North Carolina-based Urban Sophisticates: http://www.urbansophisticates.com/

Hit me up backchannel.  I book shows for numerous venues and events here in Austin and have some relationships with agents that could help out.    mike at austinslam dot com

Also:  to add some representation from the family, Da'Shade from Austin is one of the MC's for a hip hop crew called Blacklisted Individuals that is absolutely incredible.  All loyalties aside, one of the best I've ever seen live.

On that Da Shade thread, give it time and he might be able to help with Eryka Badu.....seems he ran in to her at the tatoo joint next to July Alley where we had the Finals for Southwest Shootout.  They could be distant cousins.
