« on: March 06, 2008, 05:02:26 PM »
Silver City Slam
201 N.Bullard St.
(Javalinas Coffee House)
Every other Saturday
www.myspace.com/silvercityslam

Our selection process goes as follows:
We have a slam every other Saturday. All slams are open to the public and are promoted through email and paper fliers.
Points are given for 1st(15) 2nd(10)3rd(5)Sacrificing(2)Hosting(2)and Competing(1)
All of our slams are subject to official psi rules and are three rounds.  The only exception being our semis and finals between the two they are five rounds. Two rounds for semi finals and three for finals.
Points are tallied throughout the season.
At the end of the season the top twelve poets recieve an invitation to compete at semifinals.
If we don't have twelve poets for semi finals they go straight to finals.
We cut from twelve poets to seven for finals night.
Top four poets for finals night will be our team with number five and six as alternates.
Places six through twelve will be the replacements in that order.
Our semi Finals this year are on March 15th
Check our website for the list of eligible poets.

Thanks for getting this up, D.

Just a couple of additions/clarifications,

SCS held 12 open slams this season. They were pretty much every other Saturday, but we did make a few exceptions in the case of holiday interruptions or the availability of a feature poet. Calendar was posted and available on our website from the third slam onward.

SCS also has a website www.silvercityslam.com where rules, eligibility, calendar, and poet scores are kept current.

There is a no-repeat rule in effect for Semi-Finals and Finals.

Semi-Finals is two rounds with cumulative score kept. Top 8 (not 7) poets advanced to Finals.
Score resets to zero for Finals.
Finals is three rounds, cumulative score kept.

i think that covers it. email me at sam at silvercityslam dot com if there are questions or concerns.

Silver City NPS 2009 Team Qualification process:

Earn points by competing or participating in one of SCS' qualified slams during the 2009 season (see www.silvercityslam.com for a schedule).

You can earn points in the following ways -
1st place = 4 points
2nd place = 3 points
3rd place = 2 points
all others = 1 point
hosting = 1 point
sacrifice = 1 point

we are removing the following requirements for this year's slam selection process -

IMPORTANT - merely earning points does not make you eligible for the Team Competition. You must CLAIM your points by creating a USER Account on this website before the end of the Slam Season (usually December/January).

ADDITIONALLY - if you wish to claim your points, you must complete one of the following tasks at a slam:
- keep score
- keep time
- sit through an ENTIRE slam from start to finish without competing.

In all cases, you must check in with the host to BEFORE the Slam begins so they know you are there to claim your points. Hosts are exempted from this rule since, well, they kind of HAVE to be there, and its pretty obvious if they are not.

In February, we will hold a slam off with the top scoring poets to select the team. Currently the top 8 scoring poets who also claim their points by creating a user account and participating in their "additional task" will be invited to compete.
The top four scoring poets from the slam-off will comprise the team for 2009.

Silver City Slam 2010 Slam Team Selection Process -

Pretty much the same as in the past -

SCS holds open slams from August (after NPS) until May.
Points are awarded as follows:
1 point - host
1 point - sacrifice/sorbet
1 point - slamming in the first round.

you can also receive a one time bonus point for one of the following:
keeping score, keeping time, UMP at a bout, W&YI participation, assisting in a Youth Slam event.

you may only receive one bonus point - if you keep score one night, then keep time the next slam, you still only earn one bonus point

you may not receive more than one point for any one event - for example, you can sacrifice and keep score at the same slam, but you can only earn one point for the night.

In order to earn your Slamming in the first round point, you must stay until the end of the round and be present at the cut. If you advance to the next round, you must complete that round to claim your point. If you advance to the third round, you must also complete that round in order to claim your point. In other words, you have to commit to the slam until you are cut. If you walk out or leave for some reason, you loose your point. 1st 2nd and 3rd place do not earn any extra points - just bragging rights.

To qualify for the Grand Slam - Top Eight point earners from the season qualify for the Grand Slam. There is a 2 point minimum. You cannot earn more than one point at any single event so all qualifiers must have participated in at least two events.

  • Grand Slam is three rounds, cumulative score for all three rounds.
  • Winner of the Grand Slam is our City Champ and IWPS rep
  • Top Four NPS eligible poets will make the NPS Team.
  • Team Members must sign a Team Contract within 3 days of earning their spot on the team.
  • The NPS team can, by consensus vote, add the fifth placed eligible poet to the team.
  • Openings on the team roll down to the next eligible finisher in the Grand Slam.
  • If an opening occurs on a 5 member team, the team can elect not to replace the fifth member.(consensus vote)
