Hi everyone,
first of all, let me say Hi. My name is Zach Kluckman, some of you know me as the Heavy Metal Poet...anyways, wanted to say hi and thanks for letting me hang with ya'll on here.
Also, and this is the juicy part....there's a new magazine you should be aware of. It's called Shadows Caste and the coolest thing is that, while it is an arts journal open to all genres, it is especially formatted for poetry from the page and from the stage, and for music. Basically, the magazine will come out every quarter, and will issue companion cds also. The cds will feature some musicians, but mostly poets doing their thing. Doesn't have to be slam poems, any poetry is welcome, but spoken word is definitely encouraged, with a beat or without. Also, doesn't matter how it is recorded, as long as it can be heard and formatted to an MP3. These may end up being available for download too (still in the works on that end).
Even if you don't want to submit audio files, send in your poetry, flash fiction (I know some of ya'll are dabbling in other writing styles....lol!), whatever. Ok, sorry to sound like an ad, but this is gonna be hot and I wanted to send out a heads up.....thanks again and for those interested, here's the details.....(I promise most of my posts will be less business-like!)
Shadows Caste is a new hybrid journal, which will publish new works quarterly online and in a 6 x 9 perfect bound print edition. This new journal will feature poetry primarily, as well as some fiction, art and photography, interviews, etc. One of the things that sets us apart however is that we are also looking for spoken word (or slam) poets! If you’d like to submit a spoken word piece, please send us an audio file or recording of the work so we can observe it in it’s natural habitat….and do send the poem on page as well so we can have the companion piece. We will be making a CD edition of the magazine featuring slam and spoken word artists as well, perhaps once every six months or more. This really depends on the number of people who submit for this genre and style, and how much we like the work. Musicians are welcome to submit work as well.
We are accepting subscriptions now! For only $20 a year, you can receive all 4 quarterly print editions, as well as the annual Reader’s choice awards edition. This money helps us to make the print edition available and to eventually become a paying venue for our artists.
To Submit-
What you need to know is that we are poets and performance artists ourselves, so the work submitted will always be reviewed by someone who has experience with- and a love for- both genres. So, send us your best work…whether it’s traditional or spoken, Saul Williams or Dylan Thomas, we want to see your most carefully crafted work, and we want to be pushed out of our seats, whether it is spiritual or sardonic, straight for the throat or subtle…. Send us the poems you feel strongly about.
For poetry – send up to six poems, no more than 80 lines each. All styles accepted and encouraged, but no hateful and pointless diatribes please, unless there is a solid point to make with it.
For fiction – send up to 3 pieces of flash fiction or 5 pages of longer works. If the piece is longer than ten pages, please query first.
For art & photography – please submit at least as 3000 dpi jpegs for us to review, We can ask for other formats once we accept a piece. Please do not send your originals as we can not return them.
Interviews, reviews and essays are welcome but please query first.
