Your input RIGHT NOW for NPS
« on: January 31, 2008, 02:16:15 PM »
We Wisconsin folks don't know everything (in spite of what I may say after that 4th Jack Daniels & cranberry juice ...), so we're asking SMs, especially the vets, to help us assemble a list of great names.

If you have ideas for PSI folks (past or present) to slot into on ANY of the following, please post them in this thread:

Lead a writing exercise
Starting a Slam panel
Marketing panel
Working with Teens panel
Performers for Power Couples (hetero AND gay, please!)
Queer Legends*
Women Legends
Legends of Color
Wouldn't-it-be-Really-Great-to-See-Their-Work-After-All-This-Time Legends
Performance coaches

We'll keep a running list of all your suggestions through the end of March.  In advance, thanks!

* Legends have been very loosely defined as someone who's been in the slam community for 10 years or more.  We'd also consider voices with 5-10 years of tenure, so to speak, who carry a lifetime of power in their words.

I'd love to see the Svelte Ms. Spelt in the "haven't heard their work in a long time" category or in the multi sexual-queer category.

Working with Teens panel
Contact me about Damien Davies, he just started a Youth Expression Program last year. He is a guest teacher for a 10 week program at two of our local high schools, hosts an afterschool writing class at the coffee shop twice a week and just put on a Youth Team as one of our recent features. He also makes our features teach a workshop to the writing class as a part of their gig. He's ruthless with the teens and they love it.

Oh! Why didn't I reply to this working-with-teens thing before? I must have missed it in the big list...

Anyway. I recommend Alex Charalambides from Worcester. He runs the Worcester Youth Slam single-handedly and has done good work for the Providence scene, too.

Airea "Dee" Matthews - Performance Coach.  She's brilliant and very well respected in Detroit.

Haven't heard their work in a long time category?this from a member of my own scene ;)
i've been going to nationals for ten years and counting-i guess that makes me a legend ;).-or at least an NPS addict.
i'd be honoured to be included in any showcase and as for workshops and panels would happily volunteer to speak on community building work.as a winner of the Spirit of the Slam Award, the chair of the Spirit of the Slam selection process, the director of the 1st IWPS held outside America and one of the founders of the Vancouver Slam Scene i think i have some advice to give on how to give back to a scene, how to build a scene, how to rally a scene together around something bigger than the sum of it's parts etc.
much love
