« Last post by Harlym 125 on June 17, 2013, 09:16:46 AM »
Get it. Go hard or go home my poetry royalty.  Don't be scared of the dungeon and enter this dragon.  ......and oh, the poets that have availed themselves to this fire already; note you will need to come with that "blazing saddles", scorched lip-tip wordzidry! Poetry for life baaaaybay! We don't "ride or die", we "POETRY OR DIE!"

Don't wait til next year to do what you should've done two years ago!

NUPIC.....we are the rumbles beneath the ground of poetry.

General Discussion / The NPS 2013 Call for MCs and Bout Managers
« Last post by edaniel on June 17, 2013, 07:24:17 AM »
If you are an experienced and energetic showperson, PSi wants your help.

If you lost your NPS qualifier but still want to experience the awesome show that is NPS, be an MC !

If you have been thinking, "How do I get involved in the organization ?" Be a Bout Manager !

If you have Bout Managed for PSI before and are looking to step up to MC, now is your chance!

Requirements: PSi membership (You can get this here on the web site!), A lot of Slam experience, a great attitude, the ability to show up in Boston on time (it's important!), working knowledge of NPS rules a plus. Prior WoWPS, IWPS or NPS experience is valued but not a requirement.

There are a limited number of spots for MCs and bout managers at NPS so get your name in early. You will receive a volunteer pass to the event which gives you access to all day and evening events (not always including the finals), just like the poets, and possibly more stage time than the poets themselves !

There will be daily meetings for MCs and Bout Managers starting on Tuesday.  Attendance at the meeting is mandatory, if you can't make the days meeting, you can't work that night.  I strongly recommend you attend 1 of the 2 NPS Orientation meetings, so you are, you know, oriented.

Where: The National Poetry Slam will be in Greater Boston, MA.
When: August 13-17, 2013
Who: All the cool kids (and also me)

General Discussion / Re: memphis poetry slam

There is no consistent Memphis poetry slam. There are some open mics, one of which is run by PhatMak (https://www.facebook.com/phatmak.poet) , most of the others are listed here: http://www.memphisflyer.com/memphis/EventSearch?eventCategory=1150093

Arkansas has a great number and variety of slam scenes. Little Rock has Rocktown Slam (https://www.facebook.com/rocktownslam), run by Amoja MoMan Sumler, as well as a number of poetry open mics and a few other slams, though none of them are as consistent as Rocktown. Hot Springs has a poetry open mic which used to be at The Poets Loft, but now is at a bar I can't remember the name of. Here in Fayetteville, we have two slams: Ozark Poetry Slam (https://www.facebook.com/OzarkPoetrySlam) is run by Heather Polly, and happens every third Tuesday of the month; and Fayetteville Word Wars (https://www.facebook.com/FayettevilleWordWars) is run by myself, and happens the last Saturday of every month. There are also inconsistent poetry open mics in Russelville, Conway, Fort Smith, and Jonesboro, and the following colleges have poetry slams from time to time: University of Arkansas, Hendrix, UCA, UALR, Arkansas Tech.

I have team finals numbers from 2008.

Alvin Lau might have some others, especially from indies.

If you are interested in pooling data, drop me an email.

The strongest slam in that area is probably Rocktown Slam in Little Rock.

I've featured there before and it was awesome.

Ok I see.

If you know anyone who might have a few sets of final stage scores that would be awesome. Trying to construct a data set.

If you use the link Jesse provided, but change the number at the end, you can see the old ones. For example:
