General Discussion / Quirky Slam extras Anyone?

Some of Mesa's traditions-
Mystery Can- This was born here several years ago, go to the grocery store, buy a can of something, and take off the label. Give it as 3rd place (or whatever). Bill Campana has a Mystery Can song to go with it, ask him to sing it some time...
On the 25th, we are Doing Star Trek Trivia night, where we ask various trivia questions, and anyone can answer, audience or otherwise. If they get it right, they may give .1 of a point to the poet of their choice in that round. Obviously, any trvia subject will fit.
Box Night. If you have a bunch of regulars that know each other well, have them bring their signature pieces and put them in a box before the slam. Each poet must read someone else's poem pulled at random from the box. Again, works best if there are alot of familiar pieces in the crowd.
'80's music Night. Poets may read lyrics from 80's songs, obviously the crazier the interpretation the better. Also obviously, this works with any genre or time period.
We did a themed night for Snakes on a Plane that was a huge hit, but stuff like that generally is situational- if the right Movie, or song, or TV show comes along, it can be a great time.
Haiku is big here in AZ, we did a bunch of slams in '06, and we have one scheduled for Feb.
Dead Poets slam, 1) the poets pick a famous passed away poet ahead of time, OR, 2) have an Anthology of poems the audience can vote for before the slam, and the poets pick at random. Again, interpretation is key to success.
I have more where that came from...
