Can anyone explain to me that NPS Teams are no longer 1st come 1st serve but have to compete against other teams to have a shot at Nationals?

General Discussion / Why did Dallas do this?
« on: May 15, 2006, 03:11:33 PM »
Hello Lindsey Yah Fu here,I have read your complaint several times and I understand your frustration you are a talented poet.I also had a talk with Dallas Slam Poet Bob Whoopiecat concerning the events that transpired the two nights in the selection of the Dallas,TX(Art Bar Slam Team)and the newly Dallas,TX(Pugley's Libuary Slam Team)where 2 months ago I went down and slam with the Pugley's Poets.And from Whoopiecat's point of view of the nine finalists that slam in the Art Bar you finished in 8th place on finals night and that two of the poets that qualified ahead of you decided to represent Pugley's Libuary Slam Team which would move you up to 6th place Now the 2006 Dallas Tx Pugley's Libuary Slam Team is Colin,Whoopiecat,Amy Weaver,K Zach,and Steve Norwood.Now for me to make a clear judgment I would had to see the scores of  both finals to really come to a conclusion.But if whoopiecat assessment is correct then you moving up 2 spots after finishing in 8th place would make you the (ALT)on that slam team.

General Discussion / Poet was ferious over selection of judges.
« on: March 30, 2006, 01:02:56 PM »
I'am glad I address this Issue on this board.We are currently having open rounds for the 2006 Baton Rouge National Poetry Slam Team.And one of the poets became ferious over the selection of the judges.Now don't get me wrong the host have had a history of picking suspect judges in the pass.Just as I mention beforehand that this host seems to have a knack of picking poets that qualified for the finals in round one and make them judges in round two of the same competition as a matter of fact three of the five judges were poets and two of the poets allready landed a spot in the final round in two weeks.Now she said,"that if judges are not available then she must pick who is available."But I saw with my own two eyes that there were other people available that didn't have such a close tie to the competing poets than the judges that were selected have as the host made the other two judges team judges.She selected three people as one team judge and two other people as one team judge.Me personally I would have made the three people  three seperate judges and the other two seperate judges and not pick the poets who have qualified for the finals judges.I mean he was pissed because he contend that the poets/judges could give curtain poets low scores to avoid them in the finals.

Thank you that was wonderfully said;

I've seen this happen before a poet being a judge 2 weeks in a row,
competed in the final 3 open week made the finals.Now I'm not saying
that it was his intention,but I just had a erie feeling about how that was done.

If a venue uses a 3 open round and a grand slam round to select there National Poetry Slam Team and uses PSI rules in doing so,is it against the rules to select poets as judges for one round and the same poets compete in another round for a spot on the team in the same tournament.
For ex:
Round 1 National Slam Team Tryout
Judge#1=Poet A
Judge#2=Poet B
Round 2 National Slam Team Tryout
Poet A compete
Poet B compete
