Jesse--- Thanks so much, but this doesn't seem to factor in the scores after semis.  Does that exist anywhere?

General Discussion / Re: IWPS 2011 Questions

It would be really nice to get a straightforward answer on these things. Also, the registration periods discussed so far have not made sense in context with the current time frame before IWPS. Forty five days from August 31 is still past the end of IWPS.

It appears to me that there is only one question people are really asking: What, in order, are the factors considered to determine which storm poets get priority?

Can someone with definitive knowledge on the question please lay that out for us?

I will have a definite date for you tomorrow.

Storm poets are prioritized in this manner:
Out of the  country
Distance from host city
Access to local slam on a regular basis

Are all of these things given equal weight, or are they prioritized in this order? For instance, if there is a poet from Florida who lives in a city with a host venue, and a poet from the middle of nowhere Ohio, both trying to storm this year, would the Florida person be given priority since "distance from host city" is the criteria you listed first?

These are listed in order of priority. Based on the list, the poet from Florida would get in first.

@Alvin You keep asking the same question(s) in a different manner:
Storm poets are prioritized in this manner:
Out of the  country
Distance from host city
Access to local slam on a regular basis

Please stop saying it wasn't done a particular way in previous years. You don't know how it was done unless you were the one processing the applications.  You perceive it to be done a certain way.

Hope this helps. If it doesn't I don't know what to tell you at this point.

Word of advice~If you don't like the way storms are prioritized, offer suggestions instead of criticizing the process.

« on: August 24, 2011, 03:03:08 PM »
@Alvin That's NOT what I said at all.

As applications for storms are received they are prioritized (meaning put in the order of "potential acceptance").

IF there are slots left after registration has been open for 30 days (correction from one of my initial posts), they become first come first serve. Meaning they open up to everyone on a first come, first served basis no matter where you are from.

There is a deadline..........it is the day that registration opens to everyone (if there are slots remaining).

The storms are prioritized as they are received.

If there are slots remaining and registration opens to everyone, storms are accepted first come first served.

@Inkera:

If you wouldn't mind, could we see the exact wording / rule for storm poet acceptance? Clearly, this isn't transparent a lot of people this pertains to. In this post, you say priority goes to people farthest from local slams, and in another post you say it goes to players without access to a slam. Those are very different things, and I'd love to have some clarification on it.

Who can compete in iWPS?
For the first two months of registration (Dates TBA) sixty slots are reserved for individual representatives of certified PSI venues. Those are available on a first come, first served basis and only the SlamMaster may register the individual representative for his or her slam. The other twelve slots are available to any member of PSI who doesn't have regular access to a local slam, with preference given to those who live the farthest away from the site of the event and those living outside the host nation. After the venue registration period, if there are still slots available, they are open to all members of PSI, regardless of location or venue representation on a first come, first served basis.

Same applies for WOWps

@Amy Storms have been done that way for numerous years. Keep in mind that Berkeley ended up having more then 72 poets so yes there were a number of storms in the competition.

You can't honestly say how the list was done without knowledge of when poets were added and who made the original storm list.

This is certainly wrong: I was wait-listed for Berkeley without access to a local slam, and there were NUMEROUS people above me who had lost local qualifiers. At the time, when Amy and I were asking about the process for selecting poets, Steve Marsh gave a very different answer than what you are telling us now, Inkera. As I recall, there was no priority for poets without access to a local slam, but they were chosen by geographic distribution and how fast they mashed SEND on registration day.

@Jesse My pleasure

@Omni HA!!  ;D  Let me correct my error. There are 12 storm slots. They can be sent in the day regisatration opens (31 Aug). They are held to determine which 12 will be accepted based on distance from a certied venue & out of the country poets.

Registration opens for everyone after 45 days. (The FAQ says 60 days but I'm sure its 45 days) Keep in mind registration is opening late this year.
