While I am administrator of the forum, I do not know who is the current Slammaster of record for any given city.  Abby Ehn has that information, and AmyD provides the proper access levels.  We are working on a way to link this to your membership automatically, but until then you need to request access.

You must be logged in to the forum.

Click HERE

You will see a list of "Available Groups" with links to request membership. Click request membership on the Slammasters group.

In the request, please put your name, Slam Name, and location in that thread. Like this:

Code: [Select]
Slammaster: Erik Daniel (aka StageName)
Slam Name: Ann Arbor Poetry Slam
Location: Ann Arbor, MI

Put your legal name there and your stage name, the requests are not public.

Once that is done, and email will automagically be sent to AmyD, and she will confirm your status and give you access.

If you have questions or problems, post here.

Thanks.

New forum software, like it?

18
I snatched this from GotPoetry.com , the article was posted on the First Amendment Center site.

Quote
PHILADELPHIA — State officials in New Jersey are immune from a lawsuit filed by a former state poet laureate who charged they nixed the position because of his politically charged poetry, an appeals court ruled yesterday.

Former New Jersey Gov. James E. McGreevey repealed the post in July 2003 after Amiri Baraka wrote a poem suggesting that Israel had advance knowledge of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

So the governor of New Jersey, unable to fire the poet outright, has the position removed altogether by the legislature of the state (in a law which passed the both the state's senate and assembly rather handily).

Baraka sues the governor, but loses.

Is his position tenable? Or was the legislature justified in ousting him ?  Was his freedom of speech abridged by the actions of the New Jersey government ?

General Discussion / The Web Site Suggestion Box

An upgrade to the site and forum software is right around the corner.   We are working diligently to redesign and re-code this place, and there is no better time to request new features or refinements to help this forum, and poetryslam.com better serve and entertain you.

What features would you like to see on this forum ?  on this site ?

What do you hate most about the forum ?  the site ?

What do you like the most ?

I can't guarantee your requests will be implemented but I will certainly see what I can do.

General Discussion / Another Call for Submissions
« on: November 23, 2005, 10:02:07 AM »
My company has donated a website to an artist entity called "The Creative People's Network".  It's sort of an online cooperative where artists, musicians, filmmakers can showcase their work online and drive traffic to their own sites.  The site has just been launched.

http://creativepeoplesnetwork.com/

They have put out the call for submissions, and that includes poetry.  Basically, You submit up to 5 works, with your headshot, and they get showcased on the site, along with a link back to your site or booking info.  You can submit a simple text file, or something more complex (like a scan of the piece written out by hand).  You could even submit audio or video of your work.

There is no cost associated with this, no one is making money, no advertising is done on the site, no rights are transferred,  it's strictly volunteer all around.

More detail can be had at the site itself.  Dialup users beware, it's a Flash heavy site.

Also:
Please feel free to spread the word to any artists, of any medium, you may come into contact with.  Thanks.

General Discussion / Slammaster Meeting News - Big Changes
« on: April 05, 2004, 08:40:57 AM »
Well the Annual Slammasters Meeting ended yesterday, and many changes were made.  I'm going to update a2slam.com with a more complete list later, but here are some of the highlights:

1- The bout rotation is no longer 4 teams/4 rounds.  It's now 5 teams/3 Rounds.  That means each team will only have 3 poems in elimination rounds.  It also means you will face 8 teams in prelims, as opposed to 6, as this allows for up to 80 teams at NPS.

2- Teams can now have 3-5 members, no more 5th wheel, all 5 poets can perform in any combination, as long as no 1 poet performs solo twice in 1 bout. 5 Poet group pieces are a now allowed.  Decisions about who performs when would be made by the coach, so choose your coach wisely(and don't choose me).

3- NPS 2006 will be in Austin, Texas.

4- There is talk about removing the Storm poets from NPS, as they now have IWPS to go to.  There was no decision made.

5- New EC Members, President - Taylor Mali(Slamnation Villain);
Secretary Cynthia French(NPS 2002 Boss) ;
Trustee- Kimberly Simms(IWPS 2004 Boss);
Re-elected Member VP-Scott Woods (Sweet!)

6- Marc Smith (So what?)- Stepped down as President for Life, citing it was time for him to step back.  He will still be around in some capacity.

7- Deb Marsh (Slam Goddess) Did not run for EC re-election, after serving on every EC since it began.  She will still be involved in NPS and, of course the Ann Arbor Poetry Slam.

8- Some tournament rules were clarified, and some penelties were added to rules that had none.  Nothing major, check a2slam.com for more info.

10 - There were some bylaw changes, mostly affecting the way Venues become registered and certified, and for how much.

More on A2slam.com later!
