Jay, you're not a Certified or Registered venue of PSi. You'll need to pay your $125 fee, become a member of PSi and submit evidence to me: psimember@charter.net

Feel free to contact me with questions, but you won't get access until you've done all of those things.

General Discussion / Re: IWPS 2011 Questions
« on: August 29, 2011, 11:40:34 AM »
Three things.

1. I'm the boss. This is what goes. Inkera is on the EC as was trying to help me/ everyone out while I was out of my office and disconnected from the internet while my flooded home was being taken care of and I was moving to a new not flooded house.

2. You will have to go with the "second one" that I've posted here. This is how it's prioritized. If you look again, you'll see that poets without access to slams (not a venue in your city, on tour) DO have a priority over those "Other Poets" which would include those who DIDN'T win their qualifier at their venue, or those poets who didn't even try at their qualifier. We've always let in past winners of the event that they are registering for, and you know what, only one or two people apply each year that would fall in that category.

3. I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for in your suggestion. We do the distance qualification because we want a VARIETY of voices in a tournament, not just a Midwest voice because the tournament falls in the Midwest. We want the individual WORLD poetry slam to represent the world, not just a section of people close to the event.

General Discussion / iWPS 2011 IMPORTANT INFORMATION
« on: August 29, 2011, 09:00:31 AM »
Registration for iWPS begins August 31, 2011. At this time, Registration is only open to Certified or Registered venues that attended (or sent a proxy) the SlamMaster meeting at the National Poetry Slam.

Because of a delay in the opening date for registration, Registration will be open to all on September 14, 2011.

If you are a Storm poet, you may apply at any time, but know that you are placed on a “waiting list” as your application is processed and prioritized. Storm are ranked based on: whether or not you are a past champion of iWPS, an international poet, whether or not you have access to a local slam, and your distance to the tournament.

On September 15, 2011, if there are spaces available, (and after the Storm poets have been "ranked") we will let poets in on a first come basis. This even applies to Certified or Registered Venues.

General Discussion / Re: IWPS 2011 Questions
« on: August 29, 2011, 08:46:20 AM »
Easiest proposal ever:

Prioritize storm poets by 1) international representation, 2) former indie champions (which was the case before, but I've seen no mention of it here), 3) invited legacy poets (if WoWPS still does that, but I don't think they do?), 4) poets without legitimate access to their local qualifiers, 5) the general public, first come first served.

#2 and #3 might have been dropped over the years, and #4 can be sub-categorized into minor priorities (distance from nearest slam, history of volunteering, etc.) and clarified. For example, legitimate access rule should include "did not compete in the final for an iWPS spot at any venue." In my mind, that's the most egregious, exploitable loophole in the system.

Here's the deal. We let folks in like this: Former Champs, International Reps, Poets without Access to Slams, Other poets.

Now, a bit of a scolding to you all. Inkera busted her butt to get you answers and you gave her a hard time. You all had notice that the Minot office (meaning your official answers to questions like these) was closed until today because my new office didn't have internet.

You will see, that the FB page (Poetry Slam, Inc.) has status updates on dates and things. You will see that the forms has information like this. The iWPS website should also have the information, but I don't control that website. We can get it up there though.

You will have information posted in the forums today, (with dates) and on the PSi FB page about iWPS. I don't control the iWPS FB page either, perhaps that person will copy and paste the information.

Relax a little bit. Some times you just have to wait for answers, no need to be pushy towards those going to bat for you.

General Discussion / Re-Do Bout August 13, 2011 at NPS
« on: August 13, 2011, 09:48:20 AM »
If you're on here but in Boston, you're going to want to head over to the Old Cambridge Chruch located at: 1151 Mass Ave. We'd like you to enter the venue through the OLD STONE TOWER located at: 400 Harvard Street.

This bout will be at 12 today.
The bout will contain: Salt Lake City, Providence, Santa Cruz, Oakland, Berkeley

Be there to support these poets!

No, sorry. The person you hold the proxy for should print you off the agenda items and you'll need to know how they want to vote on those items.

General Discussion / FYI: HOST HOTELS IN MA FOR NPS
« on: August 01, 2011, 07:39:14 PM »
I talked to the Host Hotel today and our contact informed me that she gets updates every time the hotel is mentioned on the internet. Today, it was mentioned on Facebook in reference to NPS and how people were planning on bringing alcohol to the hotel. She informed me that it was against the law in MA to bring outside alcohol into hotels.

I'm not from out East, I don't know the laws, but she informed me that folks could get kicked out of the hotel and or face charges if alcohol is in the rooms.

You're all responsible adults. I just wanted to give you a heads up.
