General Discussion / Re: Official NPS 2009 announcement

there're a couple ways to go about it but if you're making the trip specifically for the festival then by all means buy a festival pass. that'll get you into everything you want without the hassle of paying individual door charges. i'm not sure you can make that purchase online, but it'll be easy enough in person once you get there. folks will be easy to find - just ask at the hotel front desk if there's not a big sign in the lobby. once you get your pass there'll be a book to go with it you just pick which events you want to go to and have at it. the picking which event is the hard part. they'll probably have a better idea of the schedule up soon on the site - http://nps2009.com/

West Coast Regionals IS happening - stay tuned for details. I can't say much but I can say it's not in Big Sur this year. It'll be a whole different kind of trees  ;) that's in the summer, july right before nat's.

There's also The New Word Series out here. it _is_ a w&yi tourney on the first day but we also include youth and collegiate teams (in their own bracket). that one's in the fall, we're shootin for 12-16 teams this year.

the youth speaks finals which is coming up in the next couple of weeks.  the living word festival (YS's big show) is in october the 10 days after iwps in sf/oak. oh yeah, there's litquake too - that's the week before iwps in sf.

yes - but don't let that stop you. you'll just get a slap on the wrist not a knee in the back.

hey Deb,
I'm thrilled w/ Florida - seriously, in LOVE with the idea. I know that this one is being worked on feverishly too - I just wanted to remind folks of what had been perceived as one of the possible stumbling points for Madison. Kinda like if we were walking down the street and I pointed out a seam in the sidewalk that I'd just seen someone else trip over.

Since we're talking about process - I do have questions there:

I served in the role of Event Coordinator...

at what point in contract negotiations is that role filled? Is it Steve unless otherwise noted / until further notice? Does the HCC have any say in who fills that role for the EC (don't read anything into that Steve, I'm just asking because I'm the inquisitive type)? The EvC role, if the "sides" are broken down, falls in with the ExC/psi camp and not the HCC camp... right?

Just one question i guess... and kind of an answer too.

Just as you may very likely be a part of the Host City Committee for the iWPS in Berkeley, if you don't live in Berkeley...

I am, and true, I live in Oakland not b-town - but I could (and have) literally walk(ed) to Berkeley. These two cities are physically closer than Manhattan is to Brooklyn and sit at the geographic center of sprawling a metro area  (SF to the west, SJ to the south, Marin/Napa/Sanoma to the north & lots of cities no one outside of the Bay has ever heard of to the east).

In the end we discussed, debated and voted for Chris Imperial's offer to host it in Florida!

We are in the process of narrowing down the appropriate city site, as Chris came to us with a number of very strong options.  We look forward to releasing that choice very soon as well.

great! Good to know NPS is in competent hands.

I don't know Chris, I've never been to any of the cities mentioned elsewhere in this thread and i'm sure he'll do a great job, but... I just want to put out there that one of the biggest problems that we/dasha had w/ madison (it has been said over and over) was the fact that she was throwing an event in a city where she does/did not live. All that to say - where does Chris live? Is there a scene in place there? is that one of the cities proposed?

Because I'm not a slam master and someone else posted it in that forum.

No no... I think the thread started in this forum is correct.  I was just wondering why someone had to start the same exact thread in a different forum.  SlamMasters can see this forum just fine.

i did - specifically because the honesty tends to be a little more brutal over there

Oh yeah, we picked our team:

4th Place: Alvin Lau

alternate: Dan Sully

Go Billy!

there's another one; called "Hip-Hop and the Classics" co-authored by Michael Cirelli that cotrasts some well known (and some not so well known) hip-hop lyrics with classic poetry. It also has writing prompts and excercises.
