« on: May 26, 2009, 05:53:31 PM »
We're looking at booking flights in to Ft Lauderdale.  Will there be a list of local shuttle companies available that can offer discounts for larger parties?  I'm sure the hotel will not offer free shuttle rides to FLL 50 miles away.

« on: June 25, 2008, 05:18:24 PM »
As I am needing a few days vacation to recoop from my vacation, These are the results from the
Southwest Shootout Regional Poetry Slam held in Dallas, Tx June 19-21st

15 teams competed

Albuquerque, Amarillo, Austin, Austin Neo Soul, Bryan College Station, Corpus Christie
Dallas, Denver-Mercury, Denver Slam Nuba, Ft Worth, Houston, Louisiana Unified (Pick up Team)
Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Silver City.

Denver Slam Nuba, Denver Mercury, Austin and Bryan College Station advanced to the Final Round on Saturday

Denver Slam Nuba was the Champion!

Individual Champion was determined by representatives from each team competing in a
Sudden Death, Head to Head, Single Elimination Win or Go Home Competition.
Joaquin Zihuatanejo from Lousiana Unified (Pick up Team) won the Indy competition

Haiku Death Match Champion was non other than Mr. Ed Mabrey!

Other important stats, 32 gallons of beer and 5 bottles of Vodka were consumed in 2 days.  One set of car keys was fished from certain death out of a storm drain with bungee chords, a winning haiku included a reference to a "tazerd dog", and 3 teams were ejected from the host hotel @ 4am on Saturday due to excessive frevolity.

It was a fantastic weekend of poetry!  Many thanks from the Dallas Crew to the poets and entourage that traveled for the event.  We hope to do another festival event in 2009.

always and gratefully yours

General Discussion / Win & You're In Deadlines
« on: April 11, 2008, 11:00:48 AM »
To all the Poetry Family

March 31st has been deemed the deadline to complete bouts for the Win & You're In qualifiers from conception.  We are now adding another deadline to the mix in this regard.  April 10th will be the deadline date to get Win & You're In contracts and rosters to the secretary for recording so that we may have the opportunity to complete W&YI before the April Slam Master meetings.  10 days past the final night for bouts is sufficient.  I, and future secretaries, will appreciate the future diligence.

always and respectfully yours,

Bob Whoopeecat Stephenson

The top 9 poets in points earn the right to slam in the Grand Slam in April for a spot on the team.  The point scales slides with the amount of participation.  We also have a last chance slam for places 10-20 two weeks before the grand slam to fill the 10th spot.   Up until this year, we allowed the Grand Slam Champion the right to choose to go to iWPS.  This year we will have a slam off for iWPS and WOWps based on point accumulation.  Replacement poets will be chosen in order of finish of the Grand Slam.

In 2012 it has been decided we will take 4 members and an alternate.  If a team member drops out the alternate will move up.  We will not go deeper than the sixth place poet in the slam off to field a team
