Technically I just have to have a competition open to the public. We could have played Jenga - but we chose to have a poetry slam for our open competition ;D

Karen and Inkera - Love you two poetry godesses!

Upstate Poetry Slam
Every Sunday
Coffee Underground
www.witsendpoetry.com
1 East Coffee Street
Greenville, SC 29661

We held a slam open to all (walk in and sign up at the door) on the last Sunday in September. The top five poets to win the slam-off (following standard slam rules, 3 round slam) became the Upstate Slam Team. Kimberly Simms Gibbs was the emcee.

If we need to replace a poet we will advertise via facebook, the website, etc and then take the champion from the next scheduled slam as listed on our website. www.witsendpoetry.com

Slam Selection Processes / Revolution Cafe in Bryan Texas
« on: April 14, 2008, 07:36:35 PM »
The process at Revolution Cafe in Bryan Texas is as follows:

In order to be a member of the 2008 Revolution Cafe team, contestants
must qualify for the "Grand Slam." There are two ways a contestant may
qualify: 1) A contestant may accumulate points by participating in
 weekly slams. [1st place = 4 points, 2nd place = 3 points, 3rd place =
2points, 4th place = 1point]  Up to 8 poets by numerical rank may
automatically qualify for the "Grand Slam."  2) A person may also qualifly by
serving as a representative for the team at a "Win and You're In"
 competition.

At the Grand Slam( a four round competion), the top four poets will be
chosen for the 2008 Revolution Cafe team that will represent Bryan, TX
at Nationals. (There will also be one alternate[5th place])

Just to be clear.

Are teams now limited to four poets or can teams still bring 5 poets for their four slots?

Thanks

Kimberly

General Discussion / Re: Would you use this? (Short Poll)
« on: November 16, 2007, 10:40:36 PM »
1. Yes

2. No - not personally - but I can see this being useful to people like librarians and other occasional bookers of poets who want to know who is available in their area.

3. No we wouldn't need this service as we have a venue website.  However, it could be a cool membership benefit at a certain level for poets who are members. However, vetting process could be difficult and a pain for PSI to manage.

There are tons of rooms available at the 89.00 rate. The hotel is apparently run by morons!!!! Be persistant and keep calling the hotel directly.
