Does anyone out there have good images from last year's Women of the World Poetry Slam? We need a couple good ones for a newspaper article.

Thanks in advance,
Louise

Hey, great to see this. Do you mind if I put this out on the WOWps facebook page? It'll get more attention -- maybe too much, ;-)

General Discussion / WOWps 2011, March 9-12, 2011

Dear slam family and poetry community,

One thing has been plain throughout my involvement with the Women of the World Poetry Slam (WOWps). And I have been involved from almost the start, before it was named even, when it was just Deb Marsh's idea.  First I helped with the website for a couple years, then I ran the marketing for the 2010 event, and now I am Host City Chair.

That one thing that has been made very plain? You know what I'm gong to say already? Maybe? But I want to say it anyway.

That one thing is that no event like this happens without the support of many, many people. Often nameless, tireless, committed people, they make this happen. From handing out flyers, to being the first to suggest a finals venue, to running fundraisers, to designing flyers, it is the people who make up the large family of poets and organizers that mean a happy and successful event. I cannot name everyone. I wish could.

So I want make it one of the first public messages that we, the current host city team running WOWps, thank past host city chairs, specifically Beverly Wilkinson and LaShaun Phoenix Moore, for their ability to take the heat and make this event as big and beautiful and empowering as it should be.

iWPS starts in one week. After that, get ready for WOWps 2011. It's going to be everything you expect it to be and -- if we all work together -- something more too.

Thank you and see you in March.

Official dates: March 9-12, 2011. For more, see the website: www.WOW.poetryslam.com.

A side thought: Cutting the number of poets would also cut the amount of revenue generated from registration fees.

Going from 72 to 60 poets in an iWPS or WOWps, for example, would probably mean a budget that is 20% smaller. Ouch.

General Discussion / Re: WOWps 2011 Host City Call Out
« on: November 18, 2010, 04:00:16 PM »
I thought I'd hop on this thread to let those following it know that WOWps 2011 (to be held in Columbus, OH) starts Wed., March 9 2011 with a Last Chance slam. Prelim bouts begin the next night, Thurs., March 10, 2011. They continue through Fri., March 11, 2011. Finals will be held at the Lincoln Theatre Sat., March 12.

The schedule should be firming up very soon. It's going to be great!

Thanks to everyone! WOWps would not be possible without the work of previous host city committees and the community at large!

For those WOWps participants, let us know your arrival time for Columbus.

We might be able to use poets for event opportunities in the days leading up to and during WOWps 2010.

General Discussion / The Next Big Thing: WOWps 2010
« on: October 06, 2009, 11:53:29 AM »
iWPS is coming right up. It's going to be amazing! And as soon as it starts -- and that is SOON (OMG!) -- as soon as it starts people are going to be up to their noses in great high and low art. So, before all that -- before the poems and the bouts and the open mics, before the emotions and stories and laughter, before the scores and ranks -- before you all get caught up in all that which is iWPS, I want to point to the next big thing. It's WOWps 2010.

Yes, the Women of the World Poetry Slam is set for March 10-13, 2010. The website is here: http://wow.poetryslam.com/.

WOWps has got a fantastic history. Fiercely competitive and deeply engaging, WOWps draws the slam community together like no other PSi event. It's in Columbus, OH this year. And you know what that means? That means it's going to be off the chain.

We've got a lot planned. It's going to be great.

Signed,
Yours Truly
Louise Robertson
2010 WOWps Marketing Director
