Selection Process at Urbana
There are four quarters of six open slams each. Each open slam has
eight slammers. The winner qualifies for the semifinals. Each
semifinal has six poets (the six winners of the open slams); if only
five of the winners are available for a semifinal, a "ranking
qualifier" is brought up on points (a poet gets 27 points for
winning, 14 points for second place, three for third, and 1 for
fourth). The four semifinal winners win their way into the second
half of the first round of the finals (spots 5 through 8). To
determine spots 1 through 4 n the first round of the finals, we hold
the MegaQuasiSemifinal one week before finals. The top eight point
earners of the season battle it out to see who the top four are.
Those four go on to the finals. Then we have a Last Chance Slam in
which anyone can throw their name in the hat to see if they can be
the last person in the finals.

General Discussion / Fair and Balanced poets

Hey everybody! Fox News came and filmed a segment at Urbana this past Tuesday where they asked us what we thought of the word "ghetto" for a segment about the book "Ghetto Nation". It will air this Sunday(3/25) on the Geraldo Rivera show at 8pm on the Fox News Network. I can't wait to see how they spin our lefty poetry! What a country!

General Discussion / Did some teams drop out?
« on: August 03, 2006, 01:32:30 PM »
I'm looking at the grid published in the Austin Chronicle and it looks like there are 2 four team bouts in each flight. Pittsburgh? Corvalis? Are they coming? Cuz they are not on the Chronicle grid. If there are two 4 team bouts are they going to be 4X4?
