Place 4th or better in the 2011 Broken Speech Grand Slam

How do I make it into the 2011 Broken Speech Grand Slam?

With our series going monthly starting in December, we're starting fresh.

To qualify for our Grand Slam, you'll need to place in the top three once during our monthly qualifying slams.

If we have more than one spot still available in the Grand Slam, we'll put them up for grabs at our Last Chance Slam, which will be held one week before the Grand Slam.

Who is not eligible to compete in the Grand Slam ?

Slammasters from other venues.

What is the playoff format?

Grand Slam: 10 poets/3 rounds/elimination every round.

Performance order for each round will be determined by random draw.

General Discussion / BNV vs NPS Question
« on: April 30, 2010, 08:46:19 AM »
I heard something that if a youth poet does BNV as a competitor, they cannot do NPS as a competitor.  Is this true?  I have a team member who might also be on a BNV team this year.

There's a possibility my wife won't be able to come with so I need a floor/couch to sleep on, preferably at the host hotel.  In exchange, I will gladly pay my share.  Backchannel me @ senryujournalist@gmail.com if you wanna help.  Thanks, y'all.

So if we reserve through PSi, does that mean we have to pay for the room upfront?

How do I make it into the 2010 Broken Speech Grand Slam?

Poets who compete receive points on a modified scale where the more poets you beat, the more points you get.  A bonus point is awarded to the highest scoring poet of the round

Example: You win a slam with 8 poets.  Because you won the slam, you get 7 points.

The poet with the most points at the end of the season (April 1, 2010) will go into the Grand Slam automatically.  Poets ranked 2-17 will compete in semi-finals where the top 4 poets from each semi goes on to the Grand Slam.  We will also have a Last Chance Slam where the eight semi-finalists who didn't make the cut have a shot for the last slot of the 2010 Broken Speech Grand Slam.

Who is eligible to accrue points towards the Broken Speech Playoffs?

Poets over the age of 21 (18 if the host city allows underage poets to compete)

Who is not eligible to accrue points towards the Broken Speech Playoffs?

Slammasters from other venues.

What is the playoff format?

Semi-Finals: 8 poets/2 rounds
Last Chance Slam: 8 poets/2 rounds
Grand Slam: 10 poets/3 rounds/elimination every round.

Performance order in each playoff will be determined based on ranking.

What restrictions are there in the playoffs?

There is a no repeat rule in the playoffs.  Whatever you perform in the Semis, can't be used in the Last Chance Slam/Grand Slam.  All poems used in the playoffs may never be used in future playoffs.

Replacement Process

In the event any of the top four are unable to remain on the team, we will fill that empty slot with the next qualified poet based on her standing at the Grand Slam.  If we run out of poets, we will have an emergency slam-off to fill those empty spots.

I just received word from Mike Henry that was in a diving accident and is in the ICU in Gainesville. He's reached out to me and Chris The Imperial about finding her family some local poets who can help them out since they will be in Gainesville for awhile. I reached out to someone I know up there but if you, dear reader, live in Gainesville, know someone who lives in Gainesville that can help her folks, please contact me. Thanks for your support.
