General Discussion / Fuck Cancer t-shirts

If someone knows someone that knows someone, take them this t-shirt idea: Fuck Cancer with pink bunny ears replacing the u. This wouldn't be just for Gabs but for all of us who have been affected by cancer. Having lost two cousins before they reached thirty and a 2 year old niece deal with cancer, the subject is close to me.

It's just an idea that I hope someone runs with.

i have finally uploaded pictures taken at WoW...since Taz, kept me busy, the pictures are only from the two bouts held Friday at the Y.

on another note, my picture archives are open....there are pictures from NPS and Southern Fried located in the sets. so, please feel free to browse the sets and leave comments. there are more pictures from NPS 2008 to upload, so keep checking back in that set.

i wasnt even sure if the trip would be possible until the last minute but......the performances, affection, laughs and love shown, was well worth the 11 hr bus ride and 7 hour roadtrip (shout out to Henzbo and Taz).

it was a pleasure to watch and listen to EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU LADIES, deliver some great work. it was the inspiration i needed at this time.

im very proud of the ladies from Detroit; Phoenix, Cassie, Arika ...im missing someone, sorry....for putting an awesome show.

im so proud of my Southern Fried Slam sisters; Gypsy Yo, Ocean, Theresa Davis and Sheba for putting it DOWN on the finals stage!!!

Jerri Hardesty (sp) for winning the Haiku Slam.

if you missed the YOUTH SLAM, smack yourself NOW!!! These young ladies brought some serious heat to the stage!

Rachel, you are the baddest. thanks for sharing your words. your victory was well earned. its always nice when the coolest girl in school, knows your name....yea, im giddy about that!!

the only bad thing about this weekend....was the cheating that took place at the men vs women battle. we SHALL have our revenge!!!

to the old friends and the new ones (female and male),  thank you for a great weekend.

General Discussion / At Nationals to Assist Shannons Family

ok, this might seem crazy or off center but.....at Nationals, can we, as a collective, either record the beautiful poems written for Shannon or gather them for book. the proceeds from the sale of either the cd or book would go to Shannons family to help defer the medical bills..

i know nothing about putting a cd or book together.....but im willing to assist in any form or fashion. its just an idea for anyone to bounce around.

and yes, i have a poem about Shannon for the Collection....

this is what happens when you stay up too late. crazy question pop into your head....either that or poems.

ok, so when did you 'fall in love' with spoken word/slam?

for me, it was the love of poetry first....listening to my mother playing the 'records' of Nikki Giovanni and the Last Poets on Saturday mornings. i didnt 'fall in love' with spoken word/slam until NPS 04 invaded St. Louis....i got to see, meet and hear the poets i watched on Def Poetry and other dope poets. so many different styles of poetry, so many topics, spoken with such passion.....i was hooked!

Even though there is a lot of negativity surrounding NPS 04, it were i 'fell in love' with spoken word/slam....

General Discussion / Slam- the Pictures

Don't know if this has been done or thought about but:

slam is about the 'words and performance' but.... what if pictures were gathered from previous National Poetry Slams and put into a book: venues, performers (famous, non-famous), crowds and fun times. for some newcomers (like me) it would be interesting to see those pictures.

Ummm, Evan, we have video...true and I like video.  maybe I'm a just a picture nerd. looking at some of the pictures taken by Poetic Dream and others have left me in awe. they should be preserved in a book for all to see.

i need help with getting another orange volunteer shirt (my shirt is too
small) and a brown shirt (left mine on the venders table Finals Night).
