General Discussion / EC Candidates in 2013

Just a note to remind you all what EC members are currently coming up on their end of term/re-elections

Henry Sampson - President (expires in 2013)
Suzi Q Smith - Vice-President (expires in 2014)
Jesse Parent - Secretary (expires in 2014)
Inkera Oshun - Treasurer (expires in 2013)
Sam Castello - Trustee (expires in 2014)
Karen G - Trustee (expires in 2013)
LoGic - Trustee (expires in 2013)

It is valuable to know who will seek re-election as well as who would be interested in running for the EC this year. Last year had a record number of candidates and it would be wonderful to see that level of interest, again.

You should consider the offices, emails and phones of PSi closed until after NPS 2012.
You can of course reach all of us on site at NPS at will, but we are now on the road, in the wind and catching planes.

Referring back to this comment in the forum access thread in reference to Golden State Slam's request to access the SlamMaster forum:

Shawn, You're not certified or registered for 2012. You'll need to take care of that online in the PSi store.

Golden State Slam is listed on line 12 of the excel document that Abbey posted listing Certified/Registered venues. Their status is NEW CERTIFICATION:

If you haven't been following the news, Minot, ND is in danger of flooding, again, and that means Abbey and her family have been evacuated.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers and be patient about NPS and membership related issues.

I received an email notification that my membership was expired.  It actually expires later this month, but I appreciated the heads up.

However, I am unable to purchase a membership renewal.  Firefox Error Console is showing this message:

General Discussion / Looking for Christopher Lee

Saw this on Karen G's livejournal, so I thought I would post here in case anyone in the family might have seen him recently:

There's already been some chatter about this, but Christopher Lee has gone
missing for some days now. Last anyone heard from him, he had gone to Dallas.

Without going too deeply into it, a Missing Persons report has been filed.

If anyone has heard from our boy, or has info / ideas, please respond.
Also please spread the word far and wide to anyone who knows Chris.

General Discussion / It's a boy!

Scott Woods Parent was born at 5:30PM MST.  We were concerned that he wasn't crying, but as soon as we handed him a piece of paper with "Waaah!" written on it, he piped right up.  True to his namesake!

Just kidding.  Jonah Kai Parent is 8lbs 8 oz and 21.5 inches.  We had a home birth and mom and baby are just doing great.

Expect more fatherhood poems.

General Discussion / Cookie issues in Firefox

So, after having some issues with Internet Explorer at work, I have switched to using Firefox.  The problem has become that I am used to entering in http://forums.poetryslam.com/ as my way to find this site.  However, whenever I do I am asked to log in again.

But... when I enter http://poetryslam.com/forum/index.php as my URL/URI it works fine and dandy.  Obviously, there's an issue with the scope of the cookie that keeps the handy dandy session information stored.  How hard would it be to a) change the cookie's scope to include all subdomains or b) force a redirect to http://poetryslam.com/forum/index.php when accessing http://forums.poetryslam.com/ ?

General Discussion / CALLING ALL LOCAL POETS IN NORTH CENTRAL FL (and fans)

To all poets in the greater areas of Gainesville, Ocala, and Orlando, Florida:

We are going to Hot Toddy Cafe in Waycross, Georgia, this Saturday (12/1) for their monthly reading. This is an around-the-room-until-dry style reading. Starts at 8, ends when done (perhaps midnight, perhaps much later). We will leave Gainesville at 4:15 or so. That will give us time to travel, stop along the way, grab a bite to eat before a robust evening of poetry, and settle into the room before the reading starts.

Please let me know if you want to participate. We will carpool and convoy both ways. Those of you who would have to leave from Waycross at a certain time (say, by 11), please let me know and I will help you coordinate carmates according to your schedules, etc.

FYI: Content should lean toward family-friendly, at least for the first part of the evening. We may be able to dip deeper into our repertoire depending on how the late-night crowd develops.

If you are from other areas of north or central Florida (such as Tampa, St. Petersburg, Daytona, Palatka, Port Richey, Lake City, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, etc.) you are welcome to join us too. Please message me for instructions, etc.

ALSO listeners and fans are welcome to come! Please don't feel left out just because you don't have anything of your own to share.

We offer a small stipend, plus merchandise sales.  We also have a partnership with another venue to feature the poet that Friday, Nov 16.

Slam Selection Processes / Salt City Slam - Salt Lake City, UT

4th Saturday of every month
Cup of Joe

We have a point system for participation in open mics and placing in slams. A poet get a point each time they read at an open mic at either the Cup of Joe open mic or the Cafe Marmalade (361 North 300 West, Salt Lake City) open mic, starting September 1 of every year. At poetry slams, held once a month at Cup of Joe on the fourth week of the month, 8 people will be allowed to participate. 27 points will be awarded for winning a slam, 14 for second, 9 for 3rd, 5 for 4th and 2 points are awarded for those finishing 5-8th.

These points will determine the top contenders for our finals in Feb/March that will vie for our team slots and the opportunity to participate in the National Poetry Slam.  If one of the qualifiers after this selection is completed cannot attend NPS, we will select a replacement based on where individuals finished in finals.

There is currently no established process for WOW or IWPS.
