Tyehimba Jess's Leadbelly was selected for the National Poetry Series a few years ago (and is a ridiculously good book).

Sage Francis probably sells more CD's in a year than most "page poets" sell books in a lifetime.

Ernie Cline's Fanboys comes out in February.

As always, Inkera rocks. I'm all about the bus.

For anybody else: I just checked around on the CATS site, and it looks like this is the route:

General Discussion / Airport-to-iWPS-hotel...
« on: December 07, 2008, 10:18:55 PM »
Hi--is there any sort of public transit or shuttle I can use to get from the airport to the hotel? I Mapquested it, and it looks like a 6 mi taxi ride, but wanted to know if there were going to be other options. I'm scheduled to arrive at 10:50 Thursday morning.

Thanks,
Eric

Hey Jared--What happened at the hearing? You still need a get-home fund? I'm not on here much, but I got a living room in Syracuse and plenty of chairs...

General Discussion / coming to MA

Speaking of MA, is the show at Lizard Lounge every Sunday?  I will be in Boston on business until Monday.

Lizard is every Sunday. "125" is featuring--he'll be interesting with the band. He's a full-velocity, full-volume performer. I don't know how exciting the slam will be--the team is practicing at another venue that night, and we've been most of the show lately. Either way, they usually get started around 8:15 down there, slam first, then feature, then open.

Cantab is tonight (Wednesday)--a touring poet from Cali is the feature. Show starts 8-ish with a long open mic, then feature, then slam.

Providence team finals are Thursday @ AS220--that should be a good show, and it's only about an hour from Boston.

But what's this it says here on the Tigers schedule I've been known to carry around in wallet every Summer, in place of money?  The Red Sox are coming to town?

Yes, they did. It was nice of the Tigers' bullpen to hand them the key to the city while they were there. That "key" being a 7.56 ERA over the series. How did those guys manage to achieve the best bullpen ERA in baseball? What, did you play Kansas City for seven games already??? Oh, wait--you did.

Little tougher playing outside the Cupcake Division, huh?

Fucking French Lick.  I think Larry Fucking Bird's from there.  Hey...didn't he play for BOSTON!?

Sorry, Matt. I can't help you out much on your contrived sports trivia. I don't really follow basketball.

Originally, I wrote a retort involving your mother, a gas station bathroom, and a different kind of "french lick" but decided that it really wasn't appropriate for a public forum. You're swearing and talking smack to somebody who isn't even on a team yet, and it kinda looks like a pitiful plea for attention. And sure, I can keep serving you here on the forum or on the stage in Austin if the bout draw works out that way again, but at least wait until there's a reason before you invite it upon yourself.

Chad Anderson runs a slam at a community college in Lincroft, NJ that's open to everybody. It's a cool show.

Hit him up at www.myspace.com/chadpoet.

Those were probably just echoes of last year's smack. My smack is so good it reverberates for up to twelve months.

I haven't even competed in a team semifinals yet. But when I do, I'm sure that more than three people will show up to compete, so I'll have to earn earn my spot on a team.

Schedule for IWPS2006

Thursday, February 2 at Spirit Square
10 am- 12 noon      Registration
1 pm – 2 pm      Opening Ceremonies and Bout Draw
1 pm – 2 pm      Volunteer Meeting

How will bout draw and/or registration be handled for poets arriving after 2? My flight arrives in Charlotte @ 1:15, so the odds of me making either event are slim to none. Do we need to proxy this stuff???

Man, I am a huge pain in the ass. Can't figure out hotels, can't show up in time. You must think it's a miracle I can dress myself (FYI- I do   )

There are tons of rooms available at the 89.00 rate. The hotel is apparently run by morons!!!! Be persistant and keep calling the hotel directly.

Finally talked to a real human being at the front desk in Charlotte and got it all set now. Thanks!

Did you talk to Trina? If you call the hotel directly and talk to her, that should do it.Though when I booked yesterday, she made it sound like there are only smoking rooms left and that they were running low.

I called the toll free number on Friday, and they told me that all the rooms were taken. I called Trina this morning, and she said she was "in a different system" and would call me back. Never heard from her. Tried again a little while ago, but she was gone for the day...
