A great place for networking is any PSi festival. The National Poetry Slam returns to the Boston area in August. There is also the Individual World Poetry Slam this fall in Spokane, WA. Both always need volunteers. Go to the home page of this site for details. Good luck.

Sometimes I miss things but I didn't see any post like this for this season. Check out http://dannystrack.tripod.com/pictures/promotion/NPS_Scouting_2011.pdf for the list that Danny Strack has put together.

Actually, the last 2 years the original iWPS dates- Berkekely, which happened, and Philly, which was postponed and moved to Charlotte- didn't conflict with CFSW. I think it is just the luck of the callendar.

I met an Ozzie poet named Mark at '08 in Charlotte and, haven't the French- Team Paris- sent a rep reguarly too?

The 2007 draw was done by the patrons and performers of the Palatine Poetry Slam. Henry walked around, made us pull team names and did preleminary slotting. I have no idea how much the U-21's affected it that night, except that my team had 2 of them :) In the spirit of the slam, Samson gae up no details that we didn't find out when everybody else did.

Anybody calling themselves "the world's greatest poet" can do that- right or wrong- with or without winning a poetry slam, but the winner of iWPS is the world poetry slam champion.

There is a poet from Chicago known by Poetic Unsub- Greatest Poet Alive. Yes, there is.

Didn't have a chance to reply so thanks, Rachel. There are a handful of us in Chicago that knew she had been battling the disease for a couple of years. Both open mics I host threw benefits for her recently and that was just as the news of the disease taking a turn for the worst had started to get out.

She was properly memorialized at Weeds bar on Monday night.

Maria McCray, a Chicago performance poetry legend and slam veteren passed Tuesday afternooon. For those who are not familiar with Maria, she was affectionately known as "Momma", performed in 9 editions of the National Poetry Slam representing Chicago/Green Mill and Chicago/Berwyn. She last competed as a storm poet in Seattle '01 and has a cameo in SlamNation. Maria was a United States Marine, serving during the Vietnam War, occasionally under fire. Maria was a singer, actor, activist, drinking buddy and mentor to many, including myself. Check out her work on www.e-poets.net. I will bring some things to share to WOW this week. I already miss her like breathing.
