I think I've only met her in passing and I wish I had known her better.  Sounds like she was such an amazing person and her quiltwork is so beautiful.  My sympathies and condolences.

Double Diddo, Arrian.  The women are the reason we have this event but the men ... we love your support.

Everybody was so absolutely amazing.  The prelims that I was able to attend at 1515 Broadway were awesome.  The ladies tore the house down so many times with their words and the energy was fierce.  I had such a great time with everyone.  Finals was fire from beginning to end.  I was in awe by every, single piece that hit the stage.  Thank you ladies.  Thank you so much.

I missed such a thing as Chair Trolley Racing!?!  OMG!  This is unexceptable!!  We must have this in Columbus as I have to understand what it is.  Not to mention ... I must participate!

I am sooooo glad you guys had such a good time.  Out of the many concerns we had, and there were many, that was always priority number one.  Thank you so much for coming and sharing yourselves with us.

Mad love,

Cassie

General Discussion / Re: Your Madison NPS Top Ten?

1.  Shopping with my girls in Madison was a DREAM.  I found so much unique and cheap stuff at some of the most fabulous little places I have ever been to in life.  L O V E D that little button place.

2.  The variety and quality of food all along State Street (and at the hotel) was right on point.

3.  The venues were all beautiful and varied.  I adored how different the MMOCA was from the Comedy Club and the Brink from the Overture and all the different semi-final and finals bout venues within the Overture.  MARVELOUS!!

4.  The POETS.

5.  The POETS.

6.  The POETS. (I can't say this enough because you guys are my family and I can't wait to see ya'll EVERY SINGLE YEAR)

7.  Dido on the Nerd Slam.  This would actually have been my first time and I was completely entranced.  Have already pulled Robbie Q aside about bringing this fantabulous sideshow to Women of the World Poetry Slam next March.

8.  The Tattler.  This newsworthy little circular should be dangling from my hotel door along with the local paper.  I was more juicy inside bits along with incriminating photos!!

9.  The after-party at the Nitty Gritty.  At first, I was like "HELL NO!  I can't move, I can't breathe and could it be hotter!?!"  But then someone (I will never know who) pulled me onto the dance floor and breathing became unnecessary.

10.  Emily Rose.  My new girlfriend for life.  My scoring committee partner in crime.  Where in the hell does that woman get all that energy?  I think we could bottle it up and sell it on Ebay.

I love you guys!!   :-*

Spring 1999.  Some several months after the death/murder of my husband.  Started dating and met a guy, who to this day is still a wonderful friend, and he thought a great first date included an evening at a poetry cafe in downtown Detroit.  I sarcastically thought, "great, a night in the back of the library stacks, smoking cigarettes and taking about the trees."  I had no idea.

The poetry that hit the stage was so intense and amazing I couldn't understand why people weren't talking about it everywhere I went.  The guy and I broke up shortly thereafter, but I kept coming back for more poetry.  Poetry helped me deal with the loss and confusion of life and my first poem was about my husband.  Rudimentary to be sure, but I found through poetry the ability to endure.  I'll always love poetry for that.

I followed open mic to Slam and what started as a deep, profound love for the art of poetry turned into a hot, steamy affair with Slam.  I've been hooked ever since.  Started a venue, slammed for a few teams and can't seem to quit.  I always look forward to seeing my lovers every year at Nationals.  You guys keep this love affair strong and exciting.  See you soon!   :-*
