RadaR aka Rachel Weinfeld will be the Vancouver rep.  We're also sending down our newly appointed PSI Slammaster, Lisa Slater, to volunteer and schmoooze.

I'd love to see the Svelte Ms. Spelt in the "haven't heard their work in a long time" category or in the multi sexual-queer category.

General Discussion / Re: Dates for IWPS 2008
« on: February 07, 2008, 05:29:07 PM »
I knew it was in October but I can't seem to track down the specific dates.  And the main reason I'm asking is due to potential scheduling conflicts with some of our poets.

Specific dates must be up by now, right?

And unfortunately I can't get onto the Slammaster forum and apparently our Slammaster of record can't either.

Thanks

General Discussion / Under 21 at Wisconsin NPS
« on: February 06, 2008, 07:09:54 PM »
I'm just wondering if some of the bouts will be taking place at all ages venues.  Or is there any policy for under 21 poets?  Are they being accomodated with special rules and so on?
There's a good chance we might have some poets who will be 19-20 making the team.

Thanks

I may be the only this eager but I still cannot log on anywhere to register a poet for WOWps on the PSI website.  Am I blind?  It seems no different than last night.

It's now 11:35 am PST.

Thanks and sorry for the pestering.

hmmmmm

I just went online at 9:50 pm PST and nothing on the PSI website that I can see for registration.  Shucks.  I have clicked on all the WOWPS links that I can find.

Any ideas?

Is it 12:03 local time (Detroit EST) or midnite from wherever we are?

General Discussion / Vancouver Poetry Slam now weekly
« on: January 11, 2008, 03:22:23 PM »
Hi, everyone.

I just wanted to let you know that as of Jan 1st, 2008 the Vancouver Poetry Slam is now producing weekly poetry events.  This means we have a few extra opportunities for featuring traveling poets.

Here's what's happening.

The 1st, 3rd and 5th Mondays will continue to be our flagship regular season slam events.  These are our qualifying slams to make the Vancouver Slam team, WOWps and IWPS and so on.  Right now we are booking features for June onward.

Our 2nd Monday of each month starting on Jan 14th begins our "Alt Slam" series.  This will feature different theme nights throughout the year.  As an example Jan will have the Team Piece Slam, February will be the Pan African Slam, and March will be the Sistahood Women's Invitational Slam.  Each of these is being coordinated by a different person from our scene.  Feature bookings will go through them but you can contact me if you want to be put in touch with them.  Each of these first three events already have features booked.

And finally, the 4th Monday of each month will feature the beginning of our inaugural Youth Poetry Slam season.  This is open to poets aged 13-22.  We will also be having featured performers at these events.  Right now January and April are booked but all other months are open.  You don't have to be a Youth Slam aged poet to feature but it would also be an added bonus if you were.

For now you can contact me, RC Weslowski, for bookings at each of these events.  If I'm not handling them specifically I will put you in contact with the person who is.

Please email me at  rcarcee@yahoo.ca  for more information.

And thanks so much to so many of you who have managed to make your way to Canada to feature at our event.  You are part of the reason why our scene is so strong and why we feel we are able to take this next step.

This sounds like fun.  But I am wondering if it's random draw to slam or how does entry work?  I'm impulsively considering flying down.

General Discussion / Re: Is there a (real) place for mythology in slam?
« on: January 08, 2008, 06:23:08 PM »
I say for sure and I would encourage you and anyone to create your own mythologies.  Tell a tale and let it resonate without expectations.  I suggest not attempting to be profound or deep and just reveal your experience.  The depth and profundities will expose themselves just by you being you.  This life is metaphor.  You can use it.

General Discussion / WOWPS Registration
« on: January 08, 2008, 12:49:13 PM »
I couldn't find any info on the PSI website about the WOWPS registration.  We've determined out poet and I want to make sure that we don't miss out on any deadlines.  Can someone please let me know when registration begins for WOWPS and where we'll be able to do that?

Much appreaciated.

Happy New Year.

For the semis in 2008 at 5x4 does that mean that each team does 4 poems?

The headline says it all.  Please let me know.  And is there some sort of additional registration process that needs to take place?
