teaching poetry to the kids

I work at a youth detention center and i have started a poetry group for the kids i work with

i heard there was a book that a poet had wrote that broached the subject of using poetry as a teaching tool, i wondered did anyone know the name?? and where i could get it....?? thankz a million

There is one called Wishes, Lies, and Dreams: Teaching Children to Write Poetry by Kenneth Koch. It contains many writing prompts and exercises, as well as some commentary on where the exercises or ideas came from and what the students did with them. It also includes examples of student writing.

there's another one; called "Hip-Hop and the Classics" co-authored by Michael Cirelli that cotrasts some well known (and some not so well known) hip-hop lyrics with classic poetry. It also has writing prompts and excercises.
