Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is Don "Yahfu" Mitchell I' am the founder, CEO, & Slam Master of the Registered and Protected Spoken Innovation Literary Organization which oversees a series of poetry events in Lafayette, Louisiana.

We are excited to announce our monthly poetry readings and  qualifications to make our 2010 Slam Teams for the respected readings that we have going on in town.

1st We have the Spoken Innovation Poetry Slam

This is a free to the public and poets poetry event but the rewards are plenty.

Winners also get a free pitcher of beer, and Bisbano's will give us one free large pizza. So come out and support the Spoken Innovation Poetry Slam, 2 blocks of the University of Louisiana @ Lafayette.


The Spoken Innovation Poetry Slam Official Point System goes as thus;

ONE POINT FOR EVERY POET BEATEN FOR EXAMPLE

IF 12 POETS SIGN THE LIST FOR ONE SLAM, THE WINNING POET WILL RECEIVE 11 POINTS FOR THAT SLAM BECAUSE HE OR SHE WOULD HAVE BEATEN 11 POETS THAT NIGHT. THE 2ND PLACE POET WOULD GET 10 POINTS, 3RD PLACE 9 POINTS AND SO ON.

These seven poets have clinched an automatic birth into the 2010 Spoken Innovation National Slam Team slam-off! But the door is also open to five more wild card poets on a first come first serve basis...Each poet will then perform 3 rounds of poetry with the top 5 scoring poets making the 2010 Spoken Innovation National Poetry Slam Team.

The Official Rules of the 2010 Spoken Innovation National Poetry Slam Team Slam-off!


1.   All poems performed must be artist own original work.
2.   No props, costumes, musical complements, animal acts, and other such gimmicks allowed during the performance of a poem.
3.   Poems can be on any style, subject, and content 100 % free speech.
4.   Poets perform only one poem per round
5.   No poems may be repeated in any round
6.   Five Judges will be randomly selected from the audience that will score each poet on a scale of 0 to 10 considering both the   written text of the poem, as well as the performance of the poem.
7.   There will be a three minute time limit, with a ten second grace period on each poem violation of this rule will result in deductions of points.
8.   From (3:11-3:20 – 0.5,) (3:21-3:30 -1.0,) (3:31-3:40 -1.5,) and so on!
9.     Timekeeper must wait until the scores are called out before they announce a time penalty.
10.   Time start as soon as contact is made with the audience which may be well before the first word is uttered!
11.   In the event of a tie, poets will perform a head to head poem, and the judges will decide the winning poet by votes!
12.   Judges hold up your score all at the same time after each performance so not to be influence by another judge score.
13.   At the end of the night the top 5 poets will be named the 2010 Lafayette, LA National Slam Team Members

Ladies and Gentlemen: & Lovers of Spoken Word Poetry,

This is Yah Fu founder/slam master of the Spoken Innovation Poetry Slam of Lafayette, LA.
On Friday December 18 @ Bisbano’s Pizza Cellar Door 1540 Johnson Street Lafayette, LA 70501 we will have the 2010 Lafayette Louisiana National Poetry Slam Team Slam-off, A Large Free Pizza, and Draft Beer for the winning poets. If you are a performance poet and would like a chance to represent the beautiful city of Lafayette, LA at the 2010 National Poetry Slam which will take place in St. Paul, Minnesota the 1st week in August then I encourages you to bring at least five original poems, sign your name on the list, and compete for your chance to make the team.

After all the poets performs there original poems before a receptive audience the top 5 poets, will be named the 2010 Lafayette, LA National Poetry Slam Team. This event as always will be free to the public and the poets so bring your family and friends to this major, major, event of live performance poet on a beautiful Friday night.

This is the Spoken Innovation Poetry Slam and we invite you to join us and help us grow into something special. We need judges, and a time keeper to volunteer at this historic event that will be hosted by Steven Cooper of Lafayette, LA. So poets the Spoken Innovation Poetry Slam invites you to come out, compete, and embrace the moment to be name the 2010 Lafayette National Poetry Slam Team.

It was a fantastic slam and the poets performed there best poetry here are the results!

Good news ladies and gentlemen, The Spoken Innovation Poetry Slam & Bisbano's Pizza Cellar Door Lounge have agreed to have the slam there for 6 more months from January 2010-June 2010. We look forward to certifying our slam in April 2010. We have had slams there the 3rd Friday of every month and our January 15 slam will be our last slam on the 3rd Friday, starting in February 2010 we will move the slam on the last Friday of every month. Ladies and Gentlemen The Spoken Innovation Poetry Slam @ Bisbano's Pizza a major success insomuch we ran out of chairs and judges had to sit on the floor, sorry about that. 2 slam team members have been replaced due to lack of attendence, lack of practice, and lack of communication to name a few so we have replaced them with two more poets so we would say goodbye to Samuel "Red" Woodman and Chris "the Golden Oracle" there replacements are Jessica Bordelon 2nd place winner of the slam Friday Feb 26, 2010, and Trumann "TRU" Spriggs 3rd place winner of the slam.
