Just read that article. Mental illness my ass. Yeah, you've gotta be pretty screwed up to be writing good poetry, but I've got $10 that says if he tracked 'cause of death,' he'd have found a stunning occurrence of lung cancer and emphysema. Followed closely by cirrosis of the liver.

but now that we've moved out of the basement, I expect the Ann Arbor poet lung cancer rate to drop dramatically.  still going to have those pesky liver problems, though.

I was reading your post, and it made me remember a conversation I was having with one of the craziest poets I know...he said, essentially, that the PC term for a mentally ill poet is Poet's Madness. Sounds like a 50's-era B-horror movie title!

The major media markets are lazy and profit driven.   I have little doubt the article is inacurate and doesn't delve deep enough.
