iWPS 2008 is changing dates and locations!!
Monday, 14 April 2008

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 2008 Individual World Poetry Slam will NOT be held in Columbus, Ohio.

But...it will be held this December in Charlotte, NC!!!  That's right! After having a blast in Charlotte at the 2005 Individual World Poetry Slam, we decided to do it all again this year!!

Charlotte NC

Many thanks to the SlamCharlotte poetry slam family and crew for picking up the task of hosting this wonderful event on such short notice!  And many thanks to Blumenthal Performing Arts Center for hosting us again!!

Below is the official announcement from Inkera, Manager for SlamCharlotte!! So pack your bags and see you beautiful people in December!! Fried pickles for everyone...YAY!!

SlamCharlotte is excited to have iWPS return to Charlotte. SlamCharlotte and our representatives from Blumenthal Performing Arts Center have met numerous times over the last couple of weeks to set the ball in motion.

Key people are being identified to work as committee heads and we have had several meetings with the poetry community in Charlotte.

We have also reached out to local volunteers in the community to solicit their support. Our sister slam team, Wine Up, is also excited about partnering to assist in the planning.

We are ready. Here is what has been identified to date.

Spirit Square/Blumenthal Performing Arts Center will be the center of everything iWPS 2008. They have locked down 3 prelim venues and finals will again be held in McGlohon Theatre. We will also have the majority (if not all) side events there. The public library (one block from Spirit Square) wants to partner with us to have some day events there. We spoke with the manager at the Breakfast Club and they are open to allowing us to have the last chance slam there again. They have said we can even have day events there if we desire.

We are hoping to have the Holiday Inn serve as the host hotel again.

The scheduled dates are 10-13 Dec. 2008.

We realize the dates are much later than normal but we had to move the dates to accommodate scheduled shows at Spirit Square.

The Charlotte poetry community and supporters are excited and prepared to give you a great event. SlamCharlotte is honored that you have enough trust and faith in us to do this again.

Your thoughts and concerns are appreciated.

On behalf of the iWPS 2008 planning committee,

Inkera
